Selling digital products

A digital product is any product you sell online that doesn’t have a physical form or substance. It can be distributed repeatedly online without the need to replenish inventory.


With Tradift's Digital Downloads app, you can upload digital files like videos, songs, and graphic art as products in your store. When a customer purchases the digital product, they receive a link to download the file.


Installing the Digital Downloads app


  1. From your Tradift dashboard, click Apps

  2. Search for Digital Downloads from the list presented.

  3. On the Digital Downloads page, click Add app.

  4. Click Install app.


Adding a digital product

To add a digital product to your online store, first, you need to create a product, and then return to the Digital downloads app to add the digital attachment to the product's details page.


You can attach only one file per product variant. You can use a .zip file or another archive file format to bundle files together under a single file name.



Steps:


  1. From your Tradift dashboard, click on Products

  2. Click on Create Product

  3. Enter the information for your digital product, such as title, description, and images.

  4. Under the shipping section, uncheck the box next to This is a physical product

  5. Click on Save Product.

  6. Under the product title, click More actions.

  7. Click Add Digital Attachment. This takes you to the Digital Downloads app page.

  8. Click UPLOAD FILE.

  9. Select the file you want to attach to this product.


You can also add a digital file to an existing product from the Digital Downloads app:

Steps:


  1. From the Digital Downloads app, click on Actions.

  2. Select Add new from the menu.

  3. A list of all the products on your dashboard will be displayed, click on Add digital file next to the product you want to add the Digital file to.

  4. Click Add Digital Attachment. This takes you to the Digital Downloads app page.

  5. Click UPLOAD FILE.

  6. Select the file you want to attach to this product.



Setting a download limit

You can set download limits on your digital attachments on the Digital Downloads app page. A download limit controls the number of times that a customer can download a digital product.

 

Steps:


  1. From your Tradift dashboard, click Apps.

  2.  Select Digital Downloads

  3. Click the digital product that you'd like to set a download limit for.

  4. Click on settings on the digital attachment you want to set a download limit for.
    In the text box next to the Total limit, enter the number of times that you would like the customer to be able to download this file. For example, if you enter 7, then the customer can download the file seven times. Enter 0 to remove the limits from the attachment.

  5.  Click Submit




Displaying a link on the checkout page

You can set whether customers can download the digital product directly on the checkout page.

 



Steps:


  1. From your Tradift dashboard, click Apps

  2. Select Digital Downloads

  3. Click Settings

  4. Next to Checkout, check or uncheck the box next to the Display download link on the checkout page.

  5. Click Save


Note:


  • If you check the box next to the Display download link on the checkout page, then the customer sees a Download now link on the order confirmation page. The customer also receives an email with the ability to download the file.

  • If you uncheck the box next to the Display download link on the checkout page, then the customer doesn't see a Download now link on the order confirmation page. Instead, they receive an email with the ability to download the file.
