You add variants to a product that comes in more than one option, such as color or size. Each combination of options for a product is a variant of that product.
For example, if you sell T-shirts with two options: color and size. The color has two values: red, and blue. The size option has two values: small, and large. The specific variant from these options is a small, red, T-shirt.
You can view the list of product variants on the product detail page
When you add variants to a product, it changes the way the product detail is been set. For products without variants, you can set the Pricing, Inventory, and Shipping settings from the product detail page. After you add variants, you need to adjust those settings for each variant from the Inventory page.
Each product can have up to 3 options. The options can be different from product to product. For example, one product can use size, color, and style, and another product can use weight, finish, and material.
How to add a product variant:
- In the Variants section of the Add product page, check This product has multiple options, like different sizes or colors.
- Enter a name for the option, such as Color in the available field. Customers will see this name.
- Enter each option value followed by a comma, such as Red, Black, or Green. Customers will see these option values when they are choosing a variant. When you enter a comma, the option values appear as tags.
